Restroom trailer maintenance checklist.

A checked box should mean the item was inspected or tested. Record defects and keep unsafe equipment out of service.

Use this page as an inspection record, not a substitute for the unit and component service manuals. The road-readiness items come from the ITS master operations guide (PDF); waste service is covered by the ITS waste-tank manual (PDF). The cleaning and record fields below help organize the handover between jobs.

Print or copy the checklist for each release. Mark an item checked, defect, or not applicable. An item that was not tested is not checked. Use qualified service personnel for repairs and tasks outside the operator's training.

Before road travel

Complete this section for outbound delivery and return pickup. ITS requires both tanks empty before transport; arrange site service before scheduling departure.

  • Fresh tank empty; waste tank emptied by the service provider.
  • Tow vehicle, hitch and coupler suitability established for this unit and loading.
  • Hitch and coupler connected with the required safety pin.
  • Safety chains crossed and properly secured; breakaway cable attached as directed.
  • Brakes, brake controller and breakaway system checked under applicable instructions.
  • Running lights, brake lights and turn signals function.
  • Trailer and tow-vehicle tires checked for condition and specified cold pressure.
  • Wheel fasteners checked under the wheel/axle manufacturer's procedure.
  • Jacks raised to travel position.
  • Steps, porches and railings, where fitted, stowed and secured.
  • Doors and control-room access closed and secured; loose equipment stowed.
  • Final walk-around completed; no unresolved transport-safety defect.

This checklist supplies no universal tire pressure or wheel torque. Use the correct instructions and specifications for the fitted components. A visible lug check is not a torque verification.

At setup, before opening to users

Use the setup sequence for the actual unit. This list records the outcome, rather than replacing the positioning, leveling or connection procedure.

  • Placement and support are suitable; unit set up and stabilized as instructed.
  • Entry equipment secure; doors operate and routes remain unobstructed.
  • Required accessible route and setup checked against the site plan, where applicable.
  • Electrical supply and connections suit the installed equipment; no damaged connections observed.
  • On-site water source or fresh-tank fill completed using the applicable procedure.
  • Toilets and sinks operate; no visible leakage during the check.
  • Lighting, ventilation and required climate equipment function.
  • Waste status checked using the unit's monitoring instructions.
  • Pump-out access remains open; service schedule and escalation contact available.
  • Toilets, sinks, touch surfaces and floors clean; consumables stocked.
  • On-site contact knows how to report a fault and take the unit out of use.

Do not open a unit with an unresolved leak, unsafe entry, damaged electrical connection or other safety defect. Identify the affected equipment and obtain qualified help rather than repeatedly resetting or masking a fault.

During use and after the job

Set inspection rounds to suit the operating plan and actual demand. This is not a manufacturer-prescribed hourly interval.

  • Water and waste status recorded; required service called before operating limits are reached.
  • Entries and routes clear; supplies and trash do not obstruct use.
  • Leaks, odors, fixture problems and damage logged for diagnosis.
  • After use, trash removed and guest areas cleaned with products suitable for the surfaces and fixtures.
  • Floors, partitions, counters, doors, locks and visible seals inspected.
  • Cleaning products used according to their labels; incompatible products not mixed.
  • Waste service completed and recorded; fresh-water shutdown handled under owner instructions.
  • Damage documented before the unit is assigned to the next job.

Pump-out does not clean the guest areas, and guest-area cleaning does not service the tank. Follow the separate waste-tank instructions for washout and preparation.

Storage and seasonal handover

  • Storage location secure and suitable; standing water and visible moisture issues addressed.
  • Required cleaning and tank service completed before longer-term storage.
  • Plumbing and fitted equipment prepared under the applicable storage instructions.
  • Freeze protection or winterization instructions obtained before freezing conditions.
  • Battery, tires, seals and installed equipment scheduled for care under their own manuals.
  • Return-to-service inspection planned before the next deployment.

Do not assume a heater, empty tank or generic winterizing recipe protects every line and component. Obtain the correct procedure through owner support if it is missing.

Retain the checklist with service receipts and parts records. For a recurring fault, send the VIN, symptom, operating conditions and photos through support instead of clearing the record after another temporary fix.

FAQ

Common questions on this topic.

Is this a complete service schedule?

No. This is an inspection and handover checklist. Use the unit and component manuals for service intervals, procedures, tire pressure, wheel torque, and seasonal preparation.

What should be recorded when a check fails?

Record the unit, date, finding, photo if useful, responsible person and required repair. Mark whether the trailer is held from transport or use, and record the retest before releasing it.

Can a winterization procedure be inferred from this checklist?

No. Obtain the instructions for the actual plumbing and installed equipment before freezing conditions. Empty tanks alone do not establish that pumps, lines and fixtures are protected.
