Pump-out removes wastewater from the holding tank through its service connection. It does not refill the fresh-water supply, clean the guest areas or complete the trailer's road-readiness inspection.
The sequence below summarizes the ITS servicing waste tank manual (PDF). It is an owner handoff guide, not training for vacuum-truck operation. Trained personnel must use the instructions applicable to the actual unit, suitable protective equipment and lawful disposal arrangements. Keep guests away from the work area. Never enter a tank or discharge wastewater onto the ground or into a storm drain.
Before opening the service connection
Arrange service at the deployment site. ITS requires both fresh and waste tanks empty before transport. The plan cannot depend on towing a full trailer elsewhere when service is late.
Take the trailer out of guest use and coordinate shutdown with the provider. The operations guide (PDF) includes turning off the water source, relieving fixture pressure and disconnecting power in its teardown instructions. Follow the applicable shutdown and stabilization instructions rather than treating waste service as permission to move an occupied or unsecured trailer.
The provider should verify the outlet, connection and service setup before beginning. If a valve is damaged, leakage is present, the trailer cannot be safely positioned or the instructions do not match the hardware, stop and get service guidance. Do not force fittings or improvise an adapter under load.
The manual's drain, tip and pump sequence
- Drain the fresh tank. The manual directs opening the fresh-tank drain valve if water remains. Establish an appropriate drainage destination with the site operator; keep fresh-water drainage distinct from wastewater disposal.
- Prepare for the tip. The manual calls for raising the front steps and stabilizer jacks before lowering the front of the trailer. Trained personnel then lower the nose as directed using the tongue jack so liquid flows toward the gate valve. This is a service position, not a guest-use position. If the unit cannot safely follow that procedure, obtain unit-specific instructions.
- Evacuate the waste. The qualified provider connects the pump vacuum hose and removes the waste. Connection and valve handling belong to the provider's safe operating procedure; the holding tank is not an open drain.
- Close and disconnect. After evacuation, the manual specifies closing the dump valve, removing the evacuation hose and returning the trailer to tow height. The crew then completes the remaining road-readiness checks before any movement.
Empty tanks alone do not make a trailer ready to tow. Steps, jacks, doors, hitch, brakes and lights still need the operations-guide checks.
Tank cleaning is a separate service task
The waste-tank manual says flushing is not required after every event. It calls for a regular schedule and for cleaning after long-term rentals or before longer-term storage. Its cleaning procedure keeps the evacuation hose connected while the tank is washed through the specified access point and remaining waste is pumped out.
Have trained service personnel follow that procedure for the fitted tank and fixtures. This article does not prescribe a chemical, dose, pressure or substitute washout method. For storage preparation, use the instructions appropriate to the unit and temperature. Non-freezing preparation is not winterization, and a storage preparation step does not override the empty-tanks transport rule.
Send this brief to the service provider
| Information | Job record |
|---|---|
| Unit and outlet | Model/VIN, applicable manual, outlet location and connection details |
| Location | Address, gate contact, site map, ground conditions and truck position |
| Reach | Provider-verified hose route and distance; obstacles and protected guest routes |
| Timing | Operating hours, service windows, access restrictions and pickup deadline |
| Scope | Pump-out, any tank washout, disposal, documentation and quoted charges |
| Escalation | On-site decision maker, dispatch number, response limits and backup arrangement |
Ask whether the quoted fee includes disposal and any after-hours or access charges. Do not assume a provider's advertised service area guarantees weekend availability.
Schedule before the tank becomes the emergency
Use the unit's monitoring instructions and actual operating records to plan visits. Record readings, use periods and completed service. There is no universal pump-out interval based on stall count. Long operating hours, changing use and blocked truck access can shorten the workable service window.
Arrange a response before continued use would exceed safe operating limits. Stop use when necessary rather than waiting for an overflow. Keep the waste-tank manual with the service brief so the crew has the source procedure at the job.
